is this normal cat behaviour when they are mating?

the other day my parents bought my cat a new basket and when he got in it he laid on his stomach and started pressing is paws in and out of the basket and kneading them and at the same time biting at the basket. then a week or so later he has been missing for three days. is this normal for a cat to do such a thing and then go missing. it sounds to me that he was ready to go wandering for a femal cat. it was like he was doing something dirty to the basket….

Your Cat was spreading his scent on the new basket.

Maybe there is a female or 2 coming into season and he has gone out on a mating spree?

You will just have to wait and see if he returns, but remember to de-flea him as he could have been in contact with some brazen hussy (p**sy) from a not to clean area.
