Not at all. They are not that expensive and they are alot of fun.
The only thing you have to consider is, Can you give them attention and room for about 4 hours a day playtime. Depends how many you want. They sleep for most of the day, but they need as much attention as a cat or a dog.

Studies with rats …
Studies with rats showed that when housed on pine, fir or cedar chips, they all had enlarged livers (due to constant detoxifying of the absorbed oils by the liver), and mild to moderate lung damage.
Pine & cedar oils elevate liver enzymes (not good). Hardwoods are safer (if the ferret doesn’t chew on them) but shredded paper is best. Buy recycled cage paper at the store or get some “moving papers” (in essence, newspaper without messy ink) from a U-haul store and run it through a shredder.
