Do you have a cat that freaks out when it sees some appliances?

I have a himalayan that hates appliances of all types. He generally flips out when he sees one.

I admit that the electric brooms are used to tease him but the rest of the stuff, I don’t get it. Is this normal cat behaviour?
My wife left a hairdryer on the floor in the bathroom. So my cat comes in there one day and sees it then it goes into it’s cautious posture and slowly backs away from it. It’s cute.

Vacuum, blender, hair dryer, certain channels on the tv… turn on the History Channel with a show about war and they show footage of bombs going off and the cat is nowhere to be found. Mine doesn’t like any electric/battery powered tools either. She especially hates the drill. She first goes into attack mode, hair standing up everywhere… she might hiss at it but then she runs for cover.

Yes, it’s very normal for cats to act like this. Mostly it’s the noise. They only need to hear something like that one time and know what the object looks like… they will forever be wary of it.
