Wash the area with carbonated water or soapy water. Use a mixture of 20% white vinegar and 80% water in a spray bottle. Spray over the problem area, gently working into the surface of the carpet with a disposable brush of some sort, then remove the excess moisture with paper towels. Try using the product DeScent. Sprinkle this naturally occurring crystalline mineral powder onto the affected area and the remaining smell will quickly vanish. When the area is completely dry, vacuum and reapply a small amount of the DeScent crystalline powder. Cats find mouthwash distasteful, so try applying a light misting of mouthwash to the affected area. A citrus-based cleaning product may also be helpful, for cats hate citrus smells. The best thing to do to avoid more accidents is to have more than one litter,hopefully you can put the second one close to where he's been going. Good luck!
