I declawed and spayed my cat, will is behaviour change and will it be permanent?

Insulting me about being “inhumane“ is not what im looking for, arguing about anti declawing isnt going to reverse whats already done. MY VET ALSO GAVE ME PAIN KILLERS TO SPRAY IN HER MOUTH, DOES THIS AFFECT HER MOOD AS WELL?

The question about the pain drugs is one for your vet. But a vet that declaws won’t answer your other questions honestly. The spaying won’t change her behavior. The declaw very well might, and not for the better. At least 30% of cats who are declawed develop at least one behavioral problem after surgery – the most common ones are biting and refusal to use the litter box (called litter box aversion – it’s so common there is even a name for it). Others are aggression, and lethargy and hiding. You’re vet didn’t warn you about those, I’m betting. Poor cat. Most of the cats that do experience this (especially the peeing all over the house) never go back to the vet – they go to the shelter, where 80% of them are promptly euthanized, as no one walks into a shelter and asks to adopt a cat that bites and pees all over the floor.

Pain drugs though can make a cat rather disoriented. she will need to be on them for a week or more, as declawing pain is excruciating – and then she has to actually walk on her poor deformed feet.

To Sue P – many vets refuse to declaw. Those that do it, do it because they make a lot of money by doing it. Declawing is banned as animal cruelty in every civilized country except the US and Canada.
