I’ve decided I’m going to try to train my kitten, most like with a clicker training method since he responds to that already with food and toys. The first thing I want to train him to do is to come to me when called. What would be the best way to do this? I’m also hoping this will help him recognize his name too. Thanks.
Start by just clicking and treating for no behavior. Then wait for him to look at you, then click and treat.
Once he’s looking at you for the treats, begin to say his name, then wait for the look, click and treat.
After that, begin to move away from him, say his name, and he’ll come to you, click and treat.
You can even wait to click after he comes to you and wait for him to sit, then click and treat. That way you’ll have a kitten that you can call by name and he’ll come to you, and sit!
